Lacquer

the lacquer concept is a modern interpretation of everyday objects, updated by the use of a traditional finishing process. our lacquer project is a result of collaboration with archeologist pia pierre to “unearth” forgotten forms and create useful pieces for the contemporary home environment.

based in asia over 30 years and specializing in southeast asian antiquities, pia pierre is a world-known archeologist and acclaimed lecturer in the domain of art history. she is an active associate of iccrom rome, founded by unesco, which focuses on the preservation of international heritage.

the lacquer donut is a modern interpretation of a qing dynasty relic, used to house the elaborate necklaces worn by nobility. the box of 4 treasures holds items that would once sit on a scholar’s desk, modified for today’s user. our lacquer bowls are proportioned for a variety of decorative uses.
