New Heights | Multipurpose Room

The layering of a glass structure into the Multipurpose Room of the New Heights Dining Room & Bar plays on the notion of transparencies, both literal and phenomenal. The blurring of boundary conditions facilitates programmatic flexibility, allowing the space to function as an extension of the main restaurant or a venue for private events. The material translucency of the steel-framed, frosted-glass insertion performs not only as a spatial device but as a viewing apparatus. On one side, a projected live-streaming image of the Bund offers a simulated “view” of the surrounding urban landscape, while on the adjacent wall, metal-lined box windows capture the actual vista to the south, effectively obscuring the relationship between inside and outside, foreground and background, picture and frame.
