Piasa | The Spectacle

The spectacle in general, as the concrete inversion of life, is the autonomous movement of the non-living.

Guy Debord, The Society of the Spectacle

The piece is neri&hu’s sculptural attempt to gaze into the dizzying world we live in today where our lives are “surrounded by an immense accumulation of spectacles”, where reality is lived by proxy instead of ourselves. The different views and moving perspectives reflect and refract the central candle light in varying degrees of illuminations, some real and others simulated, by the different “spectacles of lenses”, mesh, plates, the human eyes.

It’s a poetic critique of our society as well as a soulful search for balance through a material exploration of form, structure and the spatial relationship between them and the gazing self.
