After the most recent dialogue between Steven Holl and Elizabeth Diller, "Architects, not Architecture" (AnA) moves their microphone to China, for another invigorating conversation between Lyndon Neri, Founding Partner of Neri&Hu and Dong Gong, Founder of Vector Architects. The talk will be moderated by Fermin Tribaldos, co-founder of AnA, and will start at 7PM CST, March 24th.
The architects are usually known by the world throughout their famous works. Generally, we know the well-known projects of the architects but we rarely know what shapes the way they work. Funded by Fermin Tribaldos and Irene Osei-Poku in Hamburg, Germany in 2015, AnA aims to bring to the stage what we normally don't see. Instead of talking about their award winning international projects, the architects are asked to talk about themselves, focusing on their path, their influences and experiences, and dive deeper into their intellectual biography. It makes a better understanding of their work, without them even mentioning it.
Lyndon Neri is Founding Partner of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office in Shanghai in 2006. Alongside his design practice, Neri has been deeply committed to architectural education and has lectured across the globe in various universities and professional forums. He was appointed as the John C. Portman Design Critic in Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 2019, and received the distinguished Norman R. Foster Visiting Professor Chair at Yale School of Architecture in 2018. He co-authored and edited Persistence of Vision: Shanghai Architects in Dialogue, published by MCCM Creations in 2007.
Based in Beijing, Dong Gong founded Vector Architects in 2008. He has been teaching Design Studios at Tsinghua University since 2014. Dong received Bachelor & Master of Architecture from Tsinghua University, followed by a diploma at University of Illinois where he received the Master of Architecture. Prior to establishing his own practice, he worked for Richard Meier & Partners and Steven Holl Architects in New York.
